About this study project

This study investigates a potential pharmacological treatment for adults diagnosed with obesity or overweight. Obesity is a chronic metabolic condition characterised by excessive adipose tissue accumulation, typically defined by a BMI of ≥30 kg/m², and is associated with significant systemic comorbidities.

Clinical consequences of obesity include:

  • Persistent fatigue and progressive reduction in physical mobility and functional capacity
  • Elevated risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular disease, and obesity-related malignancies
  • Psychosocial burden, including reduced self-efficacy, social isolation, and impaired mental health

The aetiology of obesity is multifactorial, involving complex interactions between genetic predisposition, endocrine dysregulation, lifestyle factors, sleep disturbances, and chronic psychosocial stress.

Study objective:

This clinical study evaluates the investigational medicinal product with respect to:

  • The degree of clinically significant weight reduction achieved
  • The effects on cardiometabolic and general health parameters
  • The impact on health-related quality of life
  • The safety and tolerability profile of the investigational agent
Criteria
  • Men and women aged 18 years or older
  • BMI ≥ 30, or
  • BMI 27–29 with comorbid sleep apnoea or cardiovascular disease
How to participate
  1. Register via the online form; you will receive a confirmation e-mail
  2. Our team will contact you for further follow-up and to assess whether participation is clinically appropriate
  3. Begin participation under medical supervision, including a treatment period and follow-up visits

You will receive personalised guidance from our team of physicians and researchers throughout the study. You are encouraged to ask questions at any stage and will receive support at every step to ensure you feel informed and clinically well-supported.

Why your participation matters

By participating, you contribute to the clinical understanding of how adults diagnosed with obesity respond to a potential therapeutic intervention. The data collected will support the further development of this treatment and may generate valuable evidence for future clinical care

Approved by the Ethics Committee UZA/UAntwerpen (reference 2025-8027, project ID 8027)
