As Head of Pharmacy, ensuring that everything related to study medication runs smoothly and correctly is at the core of my work, from receipt and storage to the allocation of medication to participants according to the randomisation schedule. Beyond that, working as a Study Operational Lead means contributing to the coordination of studies and supporting the team. Being a first point of contact is something that comes naturally, and making sure that collaboration and communication between the different teams are well aligned is a priority.
An interesting fact: in blinded studies, the pharmacy is often part of the unblinding team. This means that we are sometimes the only ones who know which treatment a participant is receiving, while the rest of the study team remains blinded. Strict confidentiality is essential in this process to guarantee the objectivity of the study.
