Obesity
SubscribeObesity is more than just a number on the scale. It has a profound impact on your health.
Although overweight and obesity both indicate excess body fat, obesity is a more serious form that can significantly damage your health.
- Overweight: BMI between 25 and 30
- Obesity: BMI of 30 or higher
Too much body fat puts extra strain on your body and can lead to physical symptoms such as fatigue, shortness of breath and joint pain. It increases the risk of exhaustion because your body has to work harder to cope with the extra strain.
How does obesity occur?
Obesity occurs when you take in more calories than your body burns for a prolonged period of time. This is often the result of a combination of diet, genetics and lifestyle - so it is not just the result of "eating too much."
Did you know that nearly 1 in 2 adults in Belgium is overweight? That means nearly half the population is affected.
Health risks of obesity
Obesity increases the risk of serious health problems such as:
- Diabetes
- Cardiovascular diseases
- Certain forms of cancer
In addition, it affects your energy levels and overall quality of life. Targeted treatment can not only help with weight loss, but also reduce the risk of these health problems.
Our research
ANIMA Research has launched a study of effective ways to reduce weight to improve your health. The goal is to understand how treatments can contribute to sustainable weight loss and lower health risks.
