Renal failure

Your kidneys filter waste products and excess fluid from your blood every day. When they don't function as well, these substances accumulate, causing damage to your body. This can lead to anemia, weaker bones, high blood pressure and even heart problems.

More than one million Belgians have kidney damage without knowing it, and without action, kidney failure could become the second leading cause of death within 25 years. That's why early detection is critical to keeping your kidneys healthy.

Did you know this about your kidneys?

  1. Kidney problems are often not felt - Fatigue or palpitations can be signs.
  2. Your kidneys filter 50 liters of blood a day.
  3. 9 in 10 people with severe kidney damage die of heart problems before they need dialysis.
  4. A urine test can detect kidney problems early, especially for over-40s and high-risk groups.
