ANIMA Research investigates new treatments for cardiovascular disease, one of the leading causes of death in Belgium (accounting for almost a quarter of all deaths). Two studies are currently underway, focusing on improving treatments and reducing cardiovascular risks.

What are cardiovascular diseases?

Cardiovascular diseases are often caused by elevated levels of fats in the blood, such as cholesterol and triglycerides. Too much fat can narrow the blood vessels, obstructing blood flow and increasing the risk of heart attacks, strokes, and other complications.

The risk of cardiovascular disease is increased if you have one or more of the following factors:

  • Diabetes
  • High blood pressure
  • Arteriosclerosis
  • Smoking
  • High cholesterol
  • Reduced kidney function

Purpose of the study
The ANIMA Research study investigates medication that can contribute to:

  • lowering blood lipids
  • improving blood flow and protecting the cardiovascular system
  • reducing the risk of heart attacks and strokes

After you register, a doctor will assess which of the two studies you are eligible for. Your medical situation, health, and any medication you are taking will be taken into account. Based on this, a decision will be made as to which study you can safely and appropriately participate in.

By participating, you contribute to scientific research and may help reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.
